MoCoLMP’s fearless founder Tony Cohen will set off on May 4 on his trek to Canada following the trail of the Underground Railroad. He’ll be accompanied the entire way by a small support team and a statue of freedom fighter Harriet Tubman. NBC News is among the media outlets covering the story.

In celebration, MoCoLMP is joining with others around the county to give Tony a rousing sendoff. On Sunday, May 3 from 2-4 p.m. in Rockville at the Beall-Dawson House, we’ll rally at Montgomery History, with both Tony and the Harriet Tubman statue making an appearance. Look for MoCoLMP at our table at this and other events. (Click here for details of all the happenings.)

On May 4 we’ll gather at the Sandy Spring Slave Museum to cheer the walk team as they set off on their 750-mile journey. Those who’d like to get in some steps of their own can meet at the Sandy Spring Friends’ Meeting House at 9 a.m. and walk 1.2 miles to the museum.

Leading up to the walk will be a series of events, including GreenFest at BlackRock Center for the Arts on April 25, Emory Grove United Methodist Church on April 26, and Riverworks outdoor stage in Poolesville on April 30.

There are plenty of ways you can help, as you’ll see on The Menare Foundation website. A key one is reaching out to your networks along the walk route to mobilize people to come out and see Tony and the amazing statue as they make the long journey. Major stops include: Baltimore, Burlington, NJ, NYC area, Poughkeepsie, Albany, Syracuse, Rochester, Buffalo/Niagara and finally crossing into Canada on July 1. They hope to celebrate July 4th in Ontario.

We hope many of you can join us in supporting Tony as he begins this historic journey. You can follow Tony on Facebook, here.
