Building a Statewide Movement
In October, MoCoLMP steering committee member Alexa Fraser presented testimony at the Maryland Lynching Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s hearing, held at the Universities of Shady Grove in Gaithersburg. The Commission is holding similar hearings in every county where a lynching occurred. Among the speakers was MoCoLMP member Bobbie Legg, who gave moving remarks about her ancestor’s role in the lynching of Sidney Randolph and how it reverberates today. (Watch her testimony beginning at 1:33:54.)
Jason Green from the county Commission on Remembrance and Reconciliation and MoCoLMP's Alexa Fraser both offered testimony to the state commission.

In November, MoCoLMP joined our sisters and brothers from county coalitions around the state at the seventh annual conference of the Maryland Lynching Memorial Project. The conference was held at the Reginald F. Lewis Museum of Maryland African American History and Culture in Baltimore. A highlight was the chance to see the museum’s new exhibit on lynching, to which MoCoLMP contributed jars of soil.

MoCoLMP welcomes volunteers for all of our activities. If you’d like to help with our research projects, initiate book club readings, or help with special events and publicity, contact us.
