Did you know that 2026 is not only the country’s 250th anniversary but also Montgomery County’s? MoCoLMP will be highlighting our county’s 250th with a rich array of events meant to lift up our mission of educating and engaging our community on our painful history of racial violence and inequity and on the resilience that so many Black communities have demonstrated. Among our activities we will:

  • continue to display our exhibit “It Happened Here” at public libraries, adding an interactive survey;

  • unveil an interactive map and webpages showing sites of enslavement, sites and stories of historic Black communities, and sites of racial terror lynchings;

  • organize field trips and virtual tours;

  • during the run of the show Appropriate, participate in community engagement programs with Olney Theater;

  • celebrate our co-founder Tony Cohen’s third walk to Canada as he retraces the Underground Railroad; and

  • hold an inspiring community gathering during Remembrance Month in November.

We invite your participation, help and feedback and look forward to seeing you!
