Podcasts can entertain and teach--and initiate interesting conversations on a long car drive. Three podcasts we've learned from lately include:
Crash Course Black American History, available on Spotify, and also as a YouTube series. "Over the course of 50 episodes, we're going to learn about Black American History. Clint Smith will teach you about the experience of Black people in America, from the arrival of the first enslaved Black people who arrived at Jamestown all the way to the Black Lives Matter movement."
1619, hosted by Nikole Hannah-Jones of the New York Times, starts with an introduction to the beginnings of slavery in America, then continues with, "A Fight for a True Democracy," "The Economy that Slavery Built," and "The Birth of American Music." It is available on Apple and Spotify podcasts.
History is US, available on Spotify and Apple podcasts. It "asks questions about who we are as a nation, and what race might reveal about our current crisis." This podcast is by Dr. Eddie S. Glaude, author and Professor of African American Studies at Princeton University.
