Historic Black Community of Sugarland: Smoked Ham and Homemade Rolls

As part of MoCoLMP’s oral history efforts, we interviewed Suzanne Johnson, president of the Sugarland Ethnohistory Project. She talks here about visiting her grandparents, Tilghman and Bessie Lee, in the historic Black community of Sugarland, outside Poolesville. Suzanne fondly remembers the self-sufficient community and the delicious food they made.
